What this site is
Texas Contractor Check is a free, informational tool that aggregates public records and publicly available commercial data about businesses operating in Texas. Reports are generated from third-party sources and presented for informational purposes only.
Not legal advice
Nothing on this site constitutes legal, financial, or professional advice. The risk score and summary are algorithmic summaries of public records, not a legal opinion or a recommendation about any specific contractor. Consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction for advice about any particular situation.
Data accuracy and timeliness
We query external sources in real time and present what they return. We do not control those sources. Data may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong in ways we cannot detect. Records may lag by days, weeks, or longer. Common business names produce false matches and distinct businesses with similar names cannot always be disambiguated from public records alone.
Before acting on any result, verify it directly with the source (for example, look up the license on the TDLR website, or call the Comptroller). A missing record is not proof of absence; a matched record may not belong to the business you had in mind.
Acceptable use
- Personal, non-commercial use to vet contractors is welcome.
- Automated scraping, bulk data extraction, or reselling results is not permitted without written permission.
- Do not use the site to defame, harass, or misrepresent any person or business.
- Respect the rate limits. Attempts to bypass them may result in IP-level blocking.
No warranties
The site is provided “as is” and “as available,” with no warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will be correct.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Texas Contractor Check and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising out of or relating to your use of the site or any contractor decision made on the basis of information presented here. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the site is to stop using it.
Third-party trademarks
Third-party names, logos, and marks (TDLR, Texas Comptroller, BBB, Yelp, Google, and others) belong to their respective owners. Their appearance here does not imply endorsement by them, nor endorsement by us of any specific contractor.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Exclusive venue for any dispute is in the state or federal courts located in Texas.
Changes
We may update these terms. Continued use of the site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. The “last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when changes were made.
